A new family member!
When you adopt a pet you’re expanding your family, which is why they’re often referred to as “fur babies”! It’s a big responsibility and should be a well thought out decision. Your home will be your pet’s forever home – once you adopt them, you are their family and there’s no going back. Pets are family, not possessions that can be traded. If you’re ready to adopt a cat or kitten from us, that’s wonderful! Here are a few things you should know.
Adoption Process
Since COVID, we’ve adapted our homing procedures.
Currently, we home kittens solely based on bios that depict their personalities, penned by their foster families who are familiar with them in a stable settled environment.
These bios provide a clear picture of the kittens’ personality and temperaments, ensuring they’re a good match for your home, thus avoiding “meeting” with kittens unsuitable for your household. Our method ensures that only the kittens with a scheduled adoption appointment, and whose personalities align with an adopter’s household, are brought back from foster care.
With all kittens in foster homes, only the selected kitten or pair with a confirmed appointment will be brought in; we do not bring in multiple kittens for selection. There is no option to meet prior to the adoption appointment. All kittens are prepared to join their new families at the time of the appointment, with no alternatives available should you choose not to proceed with the adoption.
Our adoption process is designed to minimize stress for the kittens. Previously, kittens would return multiple times, meeting numerous people, which often led to stress and atypical behavior, causing some to be repeatedly overlooked.
During the adoption appointment, if you decide not to proceed after “meeting” the kitten, that’s completely acceptable. However, if you wish to adopt, we expect the process to be finalized immediately, and the kitten to go home with you.
We recognize this method may not suit everyone, but it has proven to be a more serene approach for homing our kittens and mothers, and we continue it for their welfare.
All our kittens and mothers are desexed, microchipped, and registered, and they are current with flea and worm treatments. Since they have been raised in foster homes, they are familiar with household etiquette and are trained to use the litter box. While all kittens are kept indoors in foster care, some mothers may have had access to the outdoors before joining us.
Adoptions are handled on a first-come, first-served basis; we do not hold or reserve kittens that may have been seen on our Facebook page. The kittens listed below are the only ones currently available for adoption through the process described above.
We encourage you to enquire promptly. We will verify if your chosen kitten is still available. If you’re interested in multiple kittens, kindly list their names in order of preference in case your top choice has already been adopted by an earlier enquiry.
For those seeking to adopt siblings, we indicate in each bio whether they have siblings available for adoption at the same time.
Our adoption appointments are usually held on a Saturday between 10-1pm, unless otherwise stated on the bio pages. If you would like to adopt but cannot make the day/ timeframe noted, please do get in touch and we will see if we can make a suitable alternative appointment. We do have to work around our adoptions team volunteers as to when they are free, as well as our foster families to be able to transport our kittens into Kitten Inn.
Payment Options
We accept cash, EFTPOS, debit cards, credit cards (3% surcharge applies).
PLEASE NOTE:
We need to charge a donation for each of our kittens/ mummas to help cover costs and make sure that we can continue to care for all the unwanted pregnant cats and kittens that come in and us. We are a registered not-for-profit charity run by a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers who put in many, many hours of their own free time. There are no paid staff members, so the money you donate when you adopt a kitten only covers the costs listed above.
Available kittens
We just have the one Mumma who is searching for her furever home this Christmas. To learn more about Mumma Socks, please click on the photo to view her profile and complete an enquiry form.
Enquiries are processed on a first-come basis, so we encourage you to enquire promptly. We will update this page and remove any kittens/ Mummas that find their furever homes as promptly as possible.
Please note that adoption appointments will be from our hub in Whitby and can be held at a mutually agreed time on 22nd/ 23rd or 24th Dec.
