A new family member!
When you adopt a pet you’re expanding your family, which is why they’re often referred to as “fur babies”! It’s a big responsibility and should be a well thought out decision. Your home will be your pet’s forever home – once you adopt them, you are their family and there’s no going back. Pets are family, not possessions that can be traded. If you’re ready to adopt a cat or kitten from us, that’s wonderful! Here are a few things you should know.
Cats (4 months and older)
If you’d like to meet any of our adult cats or older kittens (4 + months), please visit our shop (63 Queens Drive, Lower Hutt) during their opening hours – Monday – Sunday 10am – 3pm, and late night Thursday 8pm
We’re open for adoptions of kittens at 247 Major Drive from 11am-4pm on weekends. For each of our kittens there’s a minimum required donation of $140. This covers costs for:
- Desexing prior to adoption
- Microchipped and registered with NZ Companion Animal Register
- The kitten will have had their first set of vaccinations. We also include a voucher for the booster shot, which is due approximately one month after the initial set of vaccinations (some conditions apply)
- Flea and worm treatments
- Vet health check
We accept cash, EFTPOS, debit cards, credit cards (3% surcharge applies) or cheques.
We need to charge a donation for each of our kittens to help cover costs and make sure that we can continue to care for all the unwanted pregnant cats and kittens that come in to us. We are a registered not-for-profit charity run by a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers who put in many, many hours of their own free time. There are no paid staff members, so the money you donate when you adopt a kitten only covers the costs listed above.
